The Wordwise project quarterly update

The Origins of The WordWise Project

The impetus for The WordWise Project arose from what I perceived as a gap in helpful resources for individuals living with chronic pain, particularly everyday practical as well as mindfulness-based strategies that could help them adapt to their new reality in positive, uplifting, and empowering ways. I also noticed a glaring absence of resources by those with the actual, lived experience of chronic pain. (After all, we know best what this experience is like.)

In early 2024, I found myself journaling about my own experience with chronic pain, its impact on my life, and things I’d been learning along the way. Without realizing it at the time, I was setting myself upon a course that would eventually become the foundation of The WordWise Project. This stream-of-consciousness journaling soon evolved into what would become a book — the one from which all content for the coaching, the affirmations, the art-based/theme-based items in the online shop, the in-person seminars, and all further writings and newsletters were based. In essence, I was creating something I wish I’d had access to when I needed it most.

In creating the vision for this new venture, I wanted to let it become something that breathes and evolves over time, rather than adhering to a rigid, fixed “plan.” The word “Project” says it all.

The Guiding Principles

In sharing what I’ve learned and the strategies I’ve developed in my own journey, I ultimately seek a mutually beneficial, symbiotic experience. One thing I always keep in mind: It’s not about teaching others my understanding of changing the inner narrative about pain; it’s about guiding them toward their own. And in doing so, I can reinforce these same concepts within myself as well.

My 29 years of teaching experience lend themselves well to working with others from that essential core perspective. It’s about helping people build self-confidence and self-trust.

The values behind The WordWise Project include the following:

  • Turning a life change I didn’t ask for into a new way of BEING and showing up for myself

  • A commitment to turning this experience into a means of contributing positively to others

  • Reclaiming my sovereignty and self-agency, and reminding others of their ability to do the same

  • A commitment to honoring my truth and my experience

  • Honoring the dignity of others as well as myself

  • Raising awareness about the realities of living with chronic pain as well as debunking myths, stereotypes, and stigmas

  • Advocating for those with chronic pain and disabilities to those in positions of power

The WordWise Project Now

Since earlier this year, I’ve created something I’m quite proud of with those very principles in mind:

  • A gentle, fluid curriculum for individual online coaching

  • A social media presence on several platforms, including YouTube and TikTok

  • An online shop featuring items (many of them based on my own original artwork) created to uplift and inspire others on their journey (20% off all items through September! 🍂🍁 See below for more info)

  • Newsletters and other communications

  • A book of affirmations for those living alongside chronic pain

  • Local, in-person seminars on living abundantly despite chronic pain

Not too shabby, I’d say, all things considered. This is a story of rising again, of reclaiming and stepping boldly into new chapters, head held high.

What’s Coming Up Next

I just love that effervescent feeling of ideas and inspirations bubbling and percolating in my mind, and there are plenty of them. Here is what’s coming up next, and what’s a glimmer in my eye for down the road:

  • My book, “Living Alongside Chronic Pain: Affirmations for Your Journey,” will be available very soon on Amazon, and also on Ingram Spark, which means it will also be available through retailers and libraries. There are also plans for an e-book version.

  • My other book, the one upon which all else is based, is nearly complete — I’m still going back and editing, polishing, and expanding, and I’ll be watching for those signs of “enough.” There are some developmental concepts I’m still considering adding to the book, but I’ll make final decisions on those in the coming weeks. I’ll keep you posted!

  • A third book, one that compiles my essays and newsletters, is growing in content as I continue sharing my story with you. Once I reach a secret, pre-determined magic number of them, the next phase will begin.

  • New items for the online shop are in the works and will be added soon! Autumn is historically a time for me when the creative muse beckons loudest, and I’m listening.

  • Plans are being made for online group coaching sessions! These webinars will be spread out over a few weeks and cover the same themes and strategies that comprise individual coaching sessions, but in a unique group setting that facilitates the sharing of multiple perspectives and contributions. Stay tuned for more info and updates!

  • Here’s the aforementioned “glimmer:” I have a hankering to start a podcast! I envision some that might include reading my newsletters/essays aloud alongside further thoughts and commentary, and others in a more conversational style, reflecting on various themes. I also aim to collaborate with others from various backgrounds in addressing some commonly shared topics that we as humans grapple with, regardless of whether chronic pain is a part of our lives or not. I already have guests in mind, and discussions are underway about this prospect! 🎉By the way, I promise not to let my trepidation of technology stand in the way of moving forward in this endeavor — it’s not about being flashy or trendy; it’s about being honest and real.

Growth is a process, and it’s exciting to witness it happening in real time. To think I’ve come this far is a fantastic feeling, and with more yet to come, I’m riding this wave of creative force with a thrill and no small sense of accomplishment. I’m so excited to see where The WordWise Project goes from here.

I’m overjoyed that you’re here with me on this adventure, and I’d love to hear your thoughts about what’s coming up and what you’d like to see more of! See below for more ways to find the offerings from The WordWise Project.

With you on the journey,

Julie 💕
